Set up 2FA in M365 (employees)

In the following steps, we will explain how to set up 2FA in M365 with an authenticatior app on your smartphone (Android or iOS).
In this example, the Google Authenticator is used. However, you can also use any other app, such as the Microsoft Authenticator app.

URL aufrufen und anmelden

Step 1

Open the following URL in your browser:

https://myaccount.microsoft.com

Note:
If you are already signed in to your FernUni account in the browser, you will be automatically redirected to your account settings.
Otherwise, you will be prompted to sign in:
Enter your "Email address or phone number" — that is, your login name followed by @buerokommunikation.fernuni-hagen.de — and click "Next".

Enter your FernUni password to sign in.

Step 2

In the left-hand navigation, click the drop-down symbol next to "My Account" and then select "Security information".

The setup wizard will open.
Click "Next".

If you are using the Microsoft Authenticator app, click "Next".

Otherwise, select
"I want to use a different authenticator app".

A QR code will then appear.
Now open your preferred authenticator app on your smartphone.

In the app, tap "Scan QR code" and point your camera at the QR code displayed on your screen.

After successfully scanning the QR code, a new account will appear in your authenticator app and a code will be generated.

In the setup wizard, click "Next" and then enter the code from your authenticator app into the input field.

Then click "Verify".

If everything worked correctly, a success message will appear.
